 SYARIF USMAN

Resistance Sharif Usman in Kota Marudu erupted after the British arrived in Sabah has brought some changes in the administrative system.



Sharif Usman is the descendant of Arab from his father and mother are natives of Sabah. He and his family had settled in Kota Marudu around the year 1824. Sharif Usman's involvement in commercial activities caused him influential among the public. Moreover, his wealth and privileges have caused him to be accepted as law by the Sultan of Sulu and given authority over Teluk Marudu. ​



Sharif managed to build Marudu government in the 19th century AD in the State. result of its success, a number of influential leaders in the Palace of Brunei and Sulu envy him.



Sharif resistance can be divided into three factors, political factors, economic and social. Sharif Usman stand against to defend the controlled government of Marudu city from falling into British hands.
